The monarch butterfly is now assessed as endangered by the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada. The monarch caterpillar feeds exclusively on Milkweed, which is why the monarch butterfly’s survival is closely tied to milkweed.
 
Once considered a noxious weed, the plant is now legal in Ontario.
